The Rise of the Planet of the Apes movie is in many ways a prequel to the original movie. The Icarus spaceship is launched during the movie - which presumably is the same ship that took George Taylor (played by Charleton Heston) to the future.

At the same time, Rise of the Planet of the Apes is similar in nature to Conquest of the Planet of the Apes - where Caesar leads a revolt. Differences include Caesar being genetically modified in Rise as opposed to being born of futuristic apes in Conquest.

There are many references to the original movie in Rise, including many of the names of characters.

Yes. The 2011 movie is the prequel.

It uses the famous quote "It's a mad house! Mad house"! from the 1968 movie. It also mentions one of the apes as being Cornelia who is one of the main characters in the 1968 movie.

What is the order of the planet of the apes movie series?

The Planet of the Apes movie series should be watched from the date produced. In fact that is the only correct way to view this movie series. This ape movie series is not like Star Wars where the prequels were produced after the ending. Follow this order and it will work out. The first two movies produced has the deceased famous actor Charlton Heston involved. 'The Planet of the Apes' (1968). 'Beneath the Planet of the Apes' (1970). 'Escape from the Planet of the Apes' (1971). 'Conquest of the Planet of the Apes' (1972). 'Battle for the Planet of the Apes' (1973). All other movies like Tim Burton's 'The Planet of the Apes' (2001) and the new film 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes' (2011) are all remakes. And 'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes' (2014) More: toprater.com/en/movies/objects/2190549-dawn-of-the-planet-of-the-apes-2014

What is the newest planet of the apes movie?

It is unlikely, as the Planet of the Apes can generally rise only once. There may be a sequel though; quite probably there will be.In the late 1960's and early 1970's the movies of the original series were released in five installments.Planet of the Apes, February 8, 1968Beneath the Planet of the Apes, May 26, 1970Escape from the Planet of the Apes, May 21, 1971Conquest of the Planet of the Apes, June 29, 1972Battle for the Planet of the Apes, June 15, 1973Later it was followed by two short lived television series, Planet of the Apes that ran in fourteen episodes from September to December 1974, and the animated series Return to the Planet of the Apes that ran in thirteen episodes from September 1975 to September 1976.The new movies do not directly coincide with the original series movies. While there are loose connections between Planet of the Apes (1968) and Planet of the Apes (2001), Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011) more closely coincides with Conquest of the Planet of the Apes (1972), but is obviously not a remake; the two barely share any elements of plot. The making of a second movie to follow Tim Burton's 2001 venture ten years after the fact seems to indicate that there is intent to continue with a third and perhaps a fourth or fifth movie. From the juxtaposition of the chronology of the 2001 and 2011 movies, however, it would seem only likely that a third movie can be made, with a slim potential for a fourth.
