Few commercially available products really work or live up to their claims. If one does proper periodic maintenance on their own systems just once a month, their systems will do just fine over the years. The PC I own is just as fast today as it was just out of the box four years ago.
I do run Norton AV in the background and run Ad-Aware before shutdown.
