Degrassi is and has always been a Canadian show. It was originally aired on CBC as The Kids Of Degrassi Street in 1979.
From 1987 to 1991 it was brought back, having two different titles: Degrassi Junior High and Degrassi High. Then after 4 years was canceled.
In 2001 CTV aired the remake as Degrassi: The Next Generation.
When Degrassi: The Next Generation hit its tenth season, MuchMusic bought the rights and decided to change the name to Degrassi.
