Primary Batteries are non-rechargeable devices that are manufactured with a one-time charge built into them. Secondary batteries are rechargeable, and are manufactured with no inbuilt charge, so they must be charged before use.

Note: Car batteries are nowadays built with coated plates so that they have an apparent charge when first installed. This is because cars do not have starter handles no, so installing an empty battery would present a problem in that the engine cannot be started to charge the battery.
