Coronation Street started off on 9th December 1960 and originally started off as a TV series. However, the show was a lot more successful than it was originally planned to be so it became a TV soap Opera. This means that it doesn't have a certain amount of episodes, it will just keep going on and on. The show is still going today with 5 episodes a week. It has also become one of the longest running soaps in the world, as it has recently passed it's 51st year.
