The head of state in Sweden is the monarch (right now a king), but the real power lays with our elected parliament and our prime minister.
A full democracy consists of: a legislature (makes law; eg. parliament), a constitution (administers law; eg. government) and judiaciary (upholds law; eg. courts). It requires: 1. parliament (elected group of representatives). 2. constitution (made of operation). 3. freedom of expression (the people have control of media/criticism). 4. freedom of association. 5. rule of law (constitution). 6. seperation of power.

The Parliament of 1760 wanted to establish its power. When George III came to the British throne, he decided to prove himself a strong leader despite Britain being a constitutional monarchy. As a result, competent advisors like William Pitt moved aside for the king's choices. The king and his Parliament looked toward changing their relationship with the American colonies. As a result, 1760 marked a turning point in the relationship between the two countries

Parliament (the group of representatives in a country can be called in different names in each country, the important is that they are the people who have been elected by the citizens to represent them in the main assembly, which has the legislative power, i.e. the branch that has the power tho make laws.)
