In the first short, Cartman was called Kenny and died in that first short. In Imaginationland, Kyle died after being strangled by ManBearPig. However, Cartman revied him, only so that Kyle could suck his balls. Towards the end of the same South Park three-part episode, Al Gore, wanting to get rid of ManBearPig, restarts an aborted nuclear missle and Kyle, Catman, Gore, and Pentagon workers get sucked into Imaginationland. Stan already got sucked in earlier. Just after Butters and the good imaginary characters win the war of Imaginationland, the nuclear missle goes off, killing Stan, Kyle, Cartman, Al Gore, the Pentagon workers, and the imaginary characters. Somehow, Butters survives the explosion and imagines everything bact to the way it was. But just imagine, what if Butters had died in the explosion too? Kenny would be very lonley and South Park would be in mourning.

Yes, their friendship is clearly existant but because of Cartman's personality it is very tense at times and most conflicts between the two occur when Stan is taking the role of 'the Jew's lackey' standing up for kyle

There are four main characters in South Park Kyle, Stan, Kenny, and Cartman. Kenny isn't even close to being the main character because they kill him everytime and kyle and Stan only freak out for few seconds. There may be a few episodes where cartman is the main character and then kyle is the main character and then Stan is the main character. There is a main character for every episode because it deals with one charcater's problem mostly. the other 3 just help make the episode better are just part of the episode.

No never! However Kyle had a near death experience when he had a hemorrhoid, but Stan and Cartman had never. Cartman thought he was dead in one episode, when everyone ignored him. Stan almost died, that episode fun with veal so basically they all almost died.
