the aux fan relay is located on the fan shroud on e46 vehicles. It is a rectangular box with wires going to a harness and two wires going to the fan motor. It is not a replaceable part and comes as part of the fan unit. It commonly goes defective and can be a cause of overheating. This despite that the fan motor test ok - it is not receiving the signal from the dme when car running.
