It's business. As little or as much as you can get away with, depending on which side of the deal you are on. It's going to depend a whole lot on you and the deal as well. If you are "low" on cash, it's always a good idea to not have any of your own money at risk and where you can profit. It has to be a pretty solid return and also helps if you can get the deal with a friend or family if you are starting. Still the best is to only promise a percentage of the "take" rather than a certain profit. It may seem expensive but it's not as costly as having to pay a rate of return if the deal ends up not being profitable.
