This is how I think Elysium could be a sequel to District 9. The reason the entire earth is destroyed is not only manmade disasters but a war with the Prawns. It's possible that when the alien from District 9 got off earth he brought an invasion fleet to not only rescue everyone else but to declare war on humanity but humans won the war but at the cost of the earth being destroyed so the rich people built Elysium for that reason as well. Also the reason Sharlto Copley's character is evil is because Before the invasion fleet arrived the alien that promised to heal Wikus healed him but the invasion fleet ended up killing his family so he became twisted and insane but the people in Elysium used their medical beds to keep him alive for over a hundred years.

Possibly, but it may not be called District 10. Believe it or not, according to Wikipedia, Neil Blomkamp has said that the next movie will be a 'prequel' of sorts. I'm sure he means that 1. There is further investigation into the lives of the non-humans, and 2. It will show what life was like in Africa before District 9/10. This also means that Wikus will be a human and Colonel Koobus Venter will be alive. However, if the sequel is about the aftermath of District 9 and the move to District 10, then Wikus will surely be a prawn and Venter will be dead. Yes there will be a District 10 movie!!!!
