Mass culture is defined as the appeal of art, writing, music, and other forms of entertainment to a much larger audience. Towards the end of the 1800's, a popular leisure activity was a trip to the music hall, which would host singers, dancers, comedians, jugglers, and acrobats in shows called vaudeville. Now, in the 21st century, for leisure we can watch the same thing without the trip using the television. Likewise, movies became a hit in the 1880's, and continued to entertain the populous through the century. The same case is true for sports games. Though not everything is the same. Back then, physical performances such as dance show and plays were much more common than they are today. Nowadays, we have the technology of the computer, phone, etc. to entertain the masses.
