Ok, I'm gonna give you a little science lesson (it will be helpful, trust me).
Your body needs glucose to function preperly, when you stop eating your body begins to use its reserves.
First it will use the glucose in your blood, this is about 20g and will only keep you going for about 40 minutes.
Once that's run out the glucogen stored in your liver and muscles are rapidly converted into glucose in order to give you energy, this will keep you going for a further 18 hours.
After that amino acids and glycerol from your fat are converted into glucose, this can keep you going for around 40 days before there is any irreversable damage.
For the first 3 or so days you will have hunger pains/cramps and be irritable e.t.c. but after that you body will have fully adapted to 'starvation mode'.
The cramps will stop and you will feel relatively normal, you'll be able to carry out everyday, low energy activities easily but if you try anything that requires a lot of energy (i.e. sprinting e.t.c.) you body won't be able to keep up with energy production and your likely to faint.
If you are going to starve yourself you have to eat nothing at all and preferably only drink water. Even if you only eat very small amounts of food (or even high calorie liquid) your body will not fully adapt to 'starvation mode' and you'll will stay in the 'hunger pains/cramps & irritability' period and therefor will not be able to function properly.
Even though its relatively 'safe' to starve yourself for 40 days I would not recommend doing it for more than 20-30, it is also pointless doing it for less than about a week because when you start eating again you will have a small burst of weight gain so if you starve yourself for a very short period the amount you put on could be more than you lose.
I hope all this helps you, starvation may not be the most 'mentally' healthy way to lose weight (which I presume is why you want to do it) but its cirtainly the most rapid.
If you are planning on actually going through with this please make sure you are not and do not become anorexic.
Being anorexic is different from just starving yourself in the fact that when your anorexic you think you need to lose weight when you actually don't.
So here are the key points:
