You don't "become" gifted. You are either gifted or you aren't. Tests are given to determine IQ, but they can be off as much as 10 points plus or minus. Testing also varies on the questions asked and the cultural background of the person taking the test as well as the general health on the day they take the test. There is also many different types of "gifted". It just isn't being smart, but it is also types of thinking and how advanced the thinking is. Some people display creative giftedness while another may be gifted in math. Often a person is gifted in one or two areas and not everything. Several years ago many schools had programs for gifted students, but with budget problems many of the programs have gone. Actually, a program is not needed because a student who is gifted will often seek out information on their own and do things that are beyond the normal student.
