His parents Minato Namikaze (4th Hokage) and Kushina Uzumaki were killed in the Nine Tailed Fox Invasion by where the Nine-Tails (under Madara's control) attacked the village and Minato sealed the Nine-Tails within his newborn son, Naruto. This caused Minato to die. When Naruto went up to his Eight- Tailed form in Pain's Invasion, the spirit of Minato stopped him from releasing the Nine-Tails and explained everything about the Nine-Tails invasion. Minato also restored the seal to its original strength.
- right before minato died, he told jiraiya to not let naruto know who his parents were. (not sure why). that's why his name is naruto uzumaki. so he doesnt know that minato namikaze was his father.
