This is actually a common misconception. While the Apache were technically responsible for the deaths of buffalo, the physical act of killing was never prevalent in tribal activities because of the Apache's respect for the sanctity of all life.
Instead, the Apache subjected buffalo populations to continuous observations regarding the fallen state of the world, the futility and pain of existence, and the inevitability that someday each living being would die alone and painfully and ebb into themselves and be forgotten for all eternity, regardless of actions in life.
This existential conundrum lead the majority of buffalo to take their own lives in frustration and depression. The rest were given AIDS.

Well not the shoshone as they lived in buffalo hide tipis like other members of the plains. the apache lived in wickiups because not much buffalo live in arizona/new mexico. mostly chiricahua apache lived in wickiups. other shelters among the apache were buffalo hide tipis but they were only used by the lipan apache of texas. very few also use hogans although thats more of a navajo shelter and very few places have enough mud.

The Apache have never been a single tribe, but a large number of related tribes speaking related but different languages. The names of the Apache tribes is a complex subject because each tribe has been called many different names by Americans, Mexicans and by themselves; each tribe was made up of several bands, each with various names.Among the Apache tribes are:JicarillaChiricahuaMescaleroWhite MountainCibecueTontoLipanKiowa-ApacheThis last tribe formed an alliance at a very early date with the unrelated Kiowa tribe (hence their name). Although speaking entirely different languages the two tribes lived, camped and hunted together as if they were one people, although the Kiowa-Apache always had a specific section of the camp circle for their tipis.
The Plains Apache were nomadic peoples and traveled to follow the buffalo when they migrated. I haven't really learned much about other Apache tribes...

There were different Apache tribes and all were essentially nomadic, following the buffalo herds and other game, anticipating the seasonal changes, etc. Mostly they were based in Texas, which was also, at one time, a separate country. Remember the Alamo?
