A stroke was the cause of death for Lyman Frank Baum [May 15, 1856-May 6, 1919]. The author and originator of the Oz books suffered a stroke on May 5th. He died the following day. His last words were said to be, 'Now we can cross the Shifting Sands'. He was buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Glendale, California.

Author and Oz series originator Lyman Frank Baum [May 15, 1856-May 5, 1919] is buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Glendale, Los Angeles, California. He was born in Chittenango, New York. He was homeschooled at his parents' vast estate ka Rose Lawn, until he was 12. Then he went to Peekskill Military Academy in Peekskill, New York. Two years later, he was back at Rose Lawn. Sometime after the age of 20, he went to work in his brother-in-law's dry goods company in Syracuse, New York. In 1880, he wrote plays and formed an acting company for the theater that his father had built for him in Richburg, New York. In July 1888, he and wife Maud Gage moved to Aberdeen, Dakota Territory, where he unsuccessfully tried to run a store ka Baum's Bazaar. He then edited The Aberdeen Saturday Pioneer, and wrote the column ka Our Landlady, until the paper failed in 1891. He, his wife, and their four sons moved to Chicago, Illinois, where Baum was a reporter for the Evening Post. He then edited a magazine that promoted store window displays, and worked as a traveling salesman, until 1897. With the success of his Mother Goose in Prose, he turned to a career as a writer. With the success of his Oz books, Baum and his family moved to Hollywood, California.

Yes, Lyman Frank Baum is dead. He was born on May 15, 1856. He died on May 6, 1919. Much of the last decade of his life was devoted to writing and publishing his American fairy tale series on the beautiful, enchanted, magical Land of Oz.
