In the Season 2, Episode 14, The One With the Prom Video, Ross is a little depressed that he was so close to getting with Rachel but things did not work out. Phoebe tries to cheer him up by telling him that "she's your lobster" and explains that lobsters mate for life ( actually they do not) and can be seen walking around in the tanks with their claws. In a later scene, Ross tries to use that as a reason why they should be together but it does not make sense to Rachel. Finally, the gang sees the prom video, and that Ross was going to take Rachel but then was crushed. They finally kiss and Phoebe exclaims, "see, he's her lobster".
