It began the slow but steady movement from a wealthy European Nation to a debtor Nation. This position was advanced under Louis XV and was made even worse as a result of the Seven Years Wars and the French aid to the United States during the American Revolution under the leadership of King Louis XVI. By 1789 the National debt had developed into a crisis which became the French Revolution.

It should be noted that France became a patron of the Arts and of Architecture during his reign, and remains a leader in that cultural arena even today.

Louis XIX only ruled over France for 20 minutes and most of that time was spent deciding whether he would abdicate like his father in the French Revolution of 1830 (which he did do) or would try to rule in his own name. Since Louis XIX was only in power for 20 minutes and his only act in office was to abdicate, it would be improper to say what the extent of his powers or style of rulership was.

Who is King Loui the 62?

I don't believe such a King exists... The last King Louis I am aware of is King Louis XIX.

Why did King Louis rule for 15 minutes?

The 15 minutes is an approximate number. Louis was married to the only surviving child of Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI. Louis XIX was actually Louis XVI's nephew, making Louis XIX and his wife, Marie-Thérèse-Charlotte, cousins. His father, Louis XVI's brother, was Charles X. Got all of that? In the July Revolution of 1830, the people of France demanded that Charles give up the throne because they hated his policies and felt they were too repressive. He reluctantly granted the wish of the people and abdicated, making Louis XIX the new king. However, the people didn't want Charles' descendants in power either, and, perhaps remembering how her parents' reign ended, Marie-Thérèse-Charlotte pleaded with her husband to abdicate as well. And he did, 20 minutes after becoming King of France. It's disputed because some historians think it's too short of a time frame to recognize.

Who had the shortest reign in history?

The shortest recorded reign I could find was King Louis XIX of France. His reign began on August 2, 1830 and ended the same exact day. It lasted an impressive fifteen minutes in total. Basically, good old Louis was the Dauphin of France, being the eldest son of King Charles X. After the July Revolution, Charles X was forced to sign papers abdicating his claim to the throne. This abdication made Louis and his wife the king and queen of France. The new king's embarrassingly brief reign consisted of him listening to his ambitious wife demand that he not sign the abdication papers while his father wept in a corner. Being king is fun.
