Is The Outsiders a book?
The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton is a realistic fiction book about a boy named Ponyboy Curtis. Ponyboy's parents are dead and he lives with his two brothers: Sodapop and Darry. The brothers live in a poor part of Tulsa Oklahoma and hang around with a crowd that to most people would be more than a little questionable. The people they hand out with are refered to as the greasers, from their hair. The greasers are at 'war' with the socs, or socials: the rich kids. The socs jump the greasers all the time. However, one time when the socs jump Ponyboy and one of his buddies, Johnny, kills a soc. This epic adventure changes Ponyboy's life forever.

Why doesn't ponyboy lie referring to sodapop as a dropout?
It's all about image. Sodapop is, in reality, a bookworm. But by definition, Greasers are not bookworms. So Ponyboy makes Sodapop look like a bad-ass by calling him a dropout.

How was ponyboy different from the other members of his gang?

How is ponyboy and johnny alike in The Outsiders?
Actually only Ponyboy went to the court in chapter 4 because Johnny was currently at the hospital trying to heal his wound from the church fire.....but, it ended as Johnny not able to go in court at all because of his tragic death. At least, he doesn't have to worry about the consequences and responsibilities he has to face for killing Bob.
