Due to the Reform Wars (1857-1861), the Mexican government faced such economic difficulties that Mexican president Benito Juarez suspended interest payments to foreign countries on July 17th, 1861. This angered France, Spain and England, who united their efforts to put pressure on, and receive payments from Mexico.
Nigeria has the potential but not the political will to implement it unfortunately. Its a member of OPEC and has large reserves of oil which could greatly benefit the people. The problem is that the government is notoriously corrupt and inefficient and the population is exploding-it has the highest birthrate in Africa! There is also a Marxist guerrilla force that continues to pressure the government and has repeatedy shut down oil production. Nigeria and the rest of Sub-Saharan Africa, except South Africa, are doomed to remain mired in poverty and high population rates and rampant corruption.
It differs from country to country, but mostly government put pressure on banks.

Pressure groups influence government decisions.
It began with American pressure to construct a naval base in Hawaii. It made both military and economic expansion in the Pacific easier. It was annexed shortly after its original government was overthrown in a coup.
When the US stops trading with another government, then the people suffer. Riots and rebelling may occur. If the people don't have any money (because of lack of trade), then the government will have to give the people more money. At least this is what it is supposed to do, but actually, it never works cuz the bad government still stays in power and treats the people even worse.
