No. The closest thing to a telephone was the Marconi wireless set. There was one on the Titanic and people could pay to send messages to people they knew. It was very expensive for a passenger to send messages so they were usually very short.
Regarding ticket prices, historian Bob Godfrey says "There was indeed great variation, but the price most commonly charged for a 3rd Class passage from Southampton was around £8 ($40 US), for 2nd Class £13 ($65) and 1st Class started at £26 ($130)".
The divisions on Titanic were logical because the separation of classes was mostly economic. i.e., you get what you pay for - but it's worth noting that strict U.S. immigration laws required that steerage remain separated from other classes for health reasons.

Everyone is required to pay taxes it's just that some people pay more depending on what the stupid government thinks is right. Rich people pay least taxes middle class pays average and poor/lower class pay a lot.
Titanic, the grandest ship in the world, was quite affordable to third-class passengers but was extremely expensive to first-class passengers who sailed with the philosophy to "get what you pay for".

First, people on SSI are probably on less income than "lower working class". But, the reason they are getting a $250 check is very, very simple.....they didn't get the one for $300-600 in 2008...which "lower working class" did. All working people are getting the "Making Work Pay Credit." This credit will be calculated on their 2009 Form 1040. Federal income tax withholding has been reduced to reflect this credit.
