Bruno and Shmuel plan to play together by meeting at the fence that separates them, where they can talk and share stories. They envision playing games like soldiers and exploring their imaginations, despite the physical barrier between them. Shmuel often shares details about his life on the other side, which fascinates Bruno and strengthens their friendship, even in challenging circumstances. Their bond grows as they find joy in their conversations and shared experiences.

In "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas," Bruno expresses disbelief in Chapter 8 when Shmuel explains that he cannot play with the boys on the other side of the fence. Bruno struggles to understand the harsh realities of Shmuel's life and the concept of the rules separating them. His naivety leads him to question why Shmuel can't join him, reflecting his innocence and lack of awareness about the circumstances surrounding their friendship.

There really is no resolution. It ends with Shmuel persuading Bruno to come to his side of the fence to look for his missing grandpa. Once on the other side, Bruno and Shmuel are forced to march with many other Jews into a gassing chamber. Both of them die, but Bruno's parents don't know this yet. They just think that Bruno's missing. Bruno's mom thinks that he went to Berlin so she takes Gretel and goes there while Bruno's dad stays at Auschwitz. Bruno's dad does a little 'exploration' of his own and finds Bruno's clothes by the fence. He then realizes that Bruno went to the other side that day and must have been sent to the gassing chamber. The worst part:Bruno's dad ordered the Jews to be sent to the gassing chamber that day. He killed his own son.
Well, in the book a boy named Bruno lives in Berlin and is the son of a high standing SS soldier. The Feurer (Hitler) or Fury as the little boy calls him comes to visit and has dinner with his parents and this is when it is decided that the family will move to Poland to live outside the Death Camp of Auschwitz, the boy can't quite pronounce it right and calls it Out-With. The boy notices out his window all the little huts and the people in "stripped pajamas". Later on his sister tells him that they are Jews. The boy becomes terribly bored and starts to walk near the wall of the camp. He comes to a spot and sits down and he begins to see someone walking towards him. This is how he meets the boy in stripped pajamas, or shmuel. They meet almost everyday except for when it rains. They sit and talk the whole time they visit and Bruno wishes they could play. After about a year of living at Auschwitz Bruno and his sister get lice and Bruno's head is shaved. Bruno comes to notice how alike him and Shmuel look now that both of their heads are shaved, but Shmuel tells him that he can't find his father and the boys devise a plan. Bruno will come the next day and sneak under the fence and help Shmuel find his father, Shmuel will bring him stripped clothes to wear. While in the camp the two boys come upon a march and a selection. They are selected and I infer that they were taken to a gas chamber. Bruno's father begins to worry and when all hope is lost he walks the line of the fence and finds that the fence is lose in one place, where a small boy could crawl under. He also finds Bruno's clothes that he left when he changed into his stripped pajamas.
