Every time darry and ponyboy have a fight they want soda to take their side. Soda does not want to take either side because he loves them both equally. They play tug of war because they want back up from him and sense soda is the only other family member left he gets stuck in the middle a lot. For example in the book and in the movie (the outsiders the complete novel) the three of them are sitting down to dinner when darry and pony get into one of their arguments. darry says his thing and pony get mad and asks soda, "Is that not right Soda?" (or something along those lines) thus drawing Soda into their argument and trying to get him to take sides
Sodapop because he was tired of being caught in the middle of all of Ponyboy and Darry's fights.
yes and it is rusting away in howth harbour since 2000
In the book he is described as a "movie star". He's good-looking, and funny. He works at a gas station and he dropped out of school, but Ponyboy doesn't like to think of him that way because of his personality. Dropout to him seems like "failure," which doesn't suit his happy-go-lucky personality. He's 16 going on 17, and very carefree. He's tuff, and rarely smokes cigarettes unlike the other members of the gang. He sticks up for Ponyboy when Darry yells at him. He is the only person who can tease Darry and get away with it because Darry doesn't mind it when he does it.

When Darry and Ponyboy were arguing they both wanted Soda on their side.
