well first find a cheap regular Monster High doll. then think of what you want to do to it and maybe sketch it out. then you can buy acrylic paints to repaint the makeup and skin colors. you can buy a liv doll or moxie doll wig is you want to have a different hair color or just get hair dye and redye it's hair like that. if you want you can either buy clothes from moxie girls or find clothes that fit your monster high doll or you can sew them yourself like i do. theres a girl named Avril on deviantart.com username:MHScreamQueen who makes amazing customs and you can ask her for ny further information on te topic. hoped i helped!

WARNING this is quite long.

I often dream up characters and have found myself using this strategy:

CHARACTER:

Is the character similar to any of the existing characters? (Not a bad thing if it is)

If yes, i search *whichever one it is similar to* dress up.

*I Have found good dress up games from the websites of Cutezee and StarSue*

If no, i sketch it out on paper.

I like to think of their personality before looks. It helps decide on hair color and style and clothing style.

Then i go on to sketch the clothing onto a drawn body (If you have Monster High Fashion Sketch book you can use that)

Then i draw a close up head to focus on the face and hair details.

I finally put it all together and think up a "Profile" of some of their favorite things. and their personality, kind of like the ones on MonsterHigh.com/bios

DOLL:

To make the character come to life in a doll, There are two options.

1: Use a Create A Monster Kit (Limited options, but simple)

2: Re-do an existing doll.

To re-do and existing doll:

(Find MH doll with closest skin color if you do not wish to paint the body)

HAIR:

Cut the hair as short as possible (if hair is wanted to change)

Find a wig for the doll (again if hair is wanted to change) I have heard that LIV and Moxie Teenz wigs work well if you cut off the peg and glue the wig to the head. If you are using Create a Monster Kits, LIV wigs might fit on the head with the peg still on.

You could go to the trouble of taking off the head and pulling out the hair so she is completely bald and re-rooting it, or just having her bald for the wig. But just cutting it as short as you can and gluing a wig is easier.

Then, if you can sew, you can make your own clothes for her.

CLOTHING:

****Sewing Tips****

If it is a shirt with long sleeves or pants, for the sleeves and pantlegs, i find that if you make the pattern around twice as wide as one of the arms or legs it comes out good in the end.

Do the sewing inside out. Then turn the clothing piece right side out by pulling it through the biggest hole in the piece (for pants it would obviously be the waistline).

If it will need Velcro cut down where it needs the velcro AFTER it is done, this way you can easily tell how far down the back or front you should cut.

If you are not good with sewing, you can always cut or alter existing fashions. With a little simple stitching Moxie Girlz Clothing fits them. Bratz clothing fits well too. There are some good outfits to make out of that.

**Hint**

You can even make the Moxie clothes stay with rubberbands around them or tying them up in the back.

For shoes you could probably just search "How to make monster high doll shoes" or just use the ones the dolls come with. I think barbie shoes can sometimes fit them as well.

REPAINTS:

For paint, make sure the paint you get works well and doesn't chip on ABS plastic (Body) and Soft PVC (Head) I would do at least two coats of the paint to be sure though. Use a medium brush for the body and a small brush for the head. if you are going to be removing the eyes and lip color totally, (for a facial repaint, *note i have not done this) i have heard nail polish remover or acetone works.

I would make sure all the body parts that can be separated are separated when painting, and around joints like the knees, be careful you don't paint the joints stiff, i would do this by having the knee bent when painting it, letting that dry, and then carefully straightening and painting the back of it

**NOTE

From some research on fansites, i have discovered many people use acrylic paints and acrylic gloss, DO NOT USE NAIL POLISH FOR A TOP CLEAR COAT it can yellow and chip.
