I have a Bradley Big Bird Talking Alarm clock and the clock works great. The alarm does not. I have read that the alarm works by the battery. I put a brand new battery in and turned the alarm hand to a desired hour but nothing happens. Any ideas?

The Kookaburra is nicknamed Bushmans Alarm Clock because its unique call earned it the nickname of bushman's alarm clock and has been used in numerous movie soundtracks, including the early Tarzan films
An early prototype of the alarm clock was invented by the Greeks around 250 BC. The Greeks built a water clock where the raising waters would both keep time and eventually hit a mechanical bird that triggered an alarming whistle. The first mechanical alarm clock was invented by Levi Hutchins of Concord, New Hampshire, in 1787. However, the ringing bell alarm on his clock could ring only at 4 am. On October 24, 1876 a mechanical wind-up alarm clock that could be set for any time was patented (#183,725) by Seth E Thomas.

The cuckoo is the favorite 'bird in the clock'. It has a nice loud 'coo-coo' call, which is a good sound for a clock announcing the hour. The cuckoo is a migrating bird that stays in Europe in the summer and winters in Africa.
