you've got to either battle wormadam at route 214 or catch burmy at a honey tree and evolve it. for mothim, a trainer at 2f on lost tower will battle you with it, or evolve it from burmy. male burmy=mothim female burmy=wormadam please note this is for platinum only. the honey tree trick will work in diamond, though! :)
In Pokémon Diamond, you can catch Burmy in the Route 205 area, specifically in the tall grass patches. Additionally, you can find Burmy in the Valley Windworks. It is a common Pokémon in these locations, so keep an eye out while exploring!

Only male Burmy evolve into mothim. Put honey on trees to catch burmy. Female burmy evolve into wormadam.

You cannot catch a wild Wormadam in Pokémon Pearl however you can catch a wild Burmy in Pokémon Pearl by putting honey in any of the various Honey Trees in the region which is where the wild Burmy will be at, once one appears it will need to be a female Burmy that you catch and then you can raise it until it reaches Level 20 at which point it will evolve into Wormadam, male Burmy cannot evolve into Wormadam male ones will only evolve into Mothim.
Any smearable tree will do, it's just a random chance of the pokemon being a Burmy.
