How do you catch ditto in Pokemon diamond?

All right, first have the National Pokedex and go to route 218 with a PokeRadar. Go in the grass and use it. It will mostly be on shiny sparkles.

An easier way to catch Ditto is to bring a low leveled Magikarp. Have Magikarp second in your party (so other Pokemon doesn't kill it).

Once you find it, and you have sent out your first Pokemon, send out Magikarp as soon as you can. Then ditto will transform into it. It's catch rate will now be 255, and it should only know Splash and maybe Tackle. Then, send out your Pokemon. Ditto can't Transform into something else. You really don't need to hurt it, because its catch rate is 255. Good luck! This will help get Magnemite, Bronzor, Phione, etc.

A hint: Only one Manaphy egg per Pokemon Ranger!

There are multiple manaphy eggs in Pokemon ranger. If you take the egg transfer it then delete the save file on Pokemon ranger. Re-beat the game then take the egg and transfer it again.

As for actually catching him in SoulSilver/HeartGold, you can't without cheats. But you can easily trade him over from Diamond, Pearl, or Platinum. Same goes for the other 4th generation starters.
I think you have to trade it over from Diamond, Peal or Platinum, you can also yous Nintendo wi-fi to trade with people all over the world for one if you do not have any of the games from the list above.
