BY applying a voltage to the relay's coil connections. Could be DC or AC at a specific voltage. If it's DC, watch the polarity. If it's AC, polarity doesn't matter. HOWEVER, VOLTAGE DOES MATTER, so don't go applying 120 VAC to a relay when it needs only 16 VAC, and DON"T APPLY AC to a DC relay. Could burn up quite nicely if you're not careful.

What happens if you energize power to wire on n.c. contacts?

If the relay contacts are in series with a connected load, then the load will energize.

What the Generator lockout relay?

generator lockout relay is a relay that the output of other relays energize this relay and its out put use for tripping of generator. this relay must be reset manually

What is cut out relay?

The cut out relay is used to energize a fuel pump. It then shuts down, until it gets impulses from the spark plugs.

How do you wire the horn button?

Most horn buttons provide the ground to energize the horn relay. The horn relay when triggered sends power to the horn.

How do you identify an electric furnace from a gas furnace?

an electric furnace runs off of 208/230 Volts while a typical gas furnace runs off of 120 also a gas furnace will have a valve for the gas relay where the gas enters the furnace.

A fan or cooler relay is used in electric furnace to change the blower speed to the speed for cooling?

A fan or cooler relay is used in electrical furnace to change the blower speed to the blank speed for cooling

How do you check the under voltage relay?

The way you check to see if an under voltage relay is wired properly is to disconnect the electrical supply. If the device that is connected to the load side of the relay does not start up or energize when the electrical supply is reconnected, then the relay is connected correctly.

When you turn off your 1989 Camaro RS your fuel pump keeps running and kills your battery. What is the cause and the fix?

The '89 Camero RS has an electric fuel pump and a relay to operate it. The relay is "turned on" by the ignition system. When the key is turned to "start" or "run" the relay is energized. (The relay is used so it can be operated from the switch. The pump itself draws too much current for it to be practical to run the pump directly through the ignition switch.) Normally the relay will energize and close and then de-energize and open with the operation of the key (ignition switch). That starts and stops the fuel pump. But if the relay is stuck "on" (the contacts remain closed) then the switch will de-energize it but it will keep the fuel pump powered up. The relay may be mechanically stuck or the contacts may have gotten "welded shut" during operation. Either way, the relay is the primary suspect in this case. Good luck with your troubleshooting and repairs.

Are potential relays used to energize or de energize split phase motors?

Yes, potential relays are used to energize and de energize split phase motors.

What powers your 2000 fucus engine fans?

Usually there is a fan relay that is controlled by the engine computer. The relay coil is usually fed 12 volts and the return (ground) wire is grounded by the computer to energize the relay. The relay is there to handle the high amperage current that runs the cooling fans. Problems in this area can be caused by the relay being bad or the power source for the fans being absent.
