Unmodified - 1down 3 up
1 down 3 up
There is a detent cable that comes from the tranny. It connects to the bottom of the throttle linkage on the carb.
Four speed transmission is : one down, three up.
Adjust the throttle stop screw located on the side of the carb that has your throttle linkage connected to it.
One down, and 4 up. They are all the same.
You might not have to replace the entire linkage. I went to Chrysler Part Dept. and picked up a bag of the nylon or plastic clips that goes on the ends of the linkage where it connects to the other moving parts. They just clip on to a stud and into a hole. (The right side wiper linkage came off where it hooks to the wiper arm. they get brittle and break apart after a few decades.) To get to them, remove the plastic panel that sets under the rear of the hood. Then remove a couple of plastic screens that cover the ends of the linkage. After some cuts and scrapes that result in about half a pint of blood loss, your wipers should work as good as new. P.S. My Lebaron was an 89. Hopefully they didn't change that much......
first of all do you have the hood and fenders off if so you have to take off the cab mount bolts and if there are any ground straps . also un hook the steering arm and the wireing block by the brake cyclender un hook your shift linkage your gas pedal linkage your heater hoses every thing that is hooked to the cab.you can take a four by four with strapes and go threw the doors to pick the cab off the frame than move the frame out from the cab .
check the u joints.if vehicle is standard shift,i would also check the clutch
on the left side of the automatic transmission, where the shift lever attaches. "D" shaped, with 2 wires.
You can adjust the clutch pedal by going under the vehicle and noting if you have a mechanical or a hydraulic linkage system. If you have an older truck most likely you will have a mechanical linkage. This is what i am going to explain here. With a mechanical linkage simply use a wrench to move the "bullet" into the clutch fork. There are two nuts involved. One nut moves the "bullet" and the other smaller nut locks the large bolt in place so it wont move through time. Sometimes the linkage has wear and it wont adjust easily. You will need to find to look at everything and make adjustment by either home fabrication, or if you can buy the part new. Not sure where you can get it though. I use fabricated my parts because no one appeard to have any for a 1981 ford f250. Good Luck
