Yes. One screw holds the mouse together. Unscrew it and put it aside. Remove the mouse top and note where the various pieces attached to the wheel are located. You can then remove the wheel and clean off all the hair and dirt that are stuck on it. Do this also for the mouse bottom and top, especially where the wheel rests. Once you're done, put the mouse back together and screw it shut. Then clean your mouse pad.

The problem with optical mice is that they need to be able to detect slight differences in the surface so that it knows what way the mouse is moving or whether it is moving at all. If you have a mousepad that was designed for friction (as most are) rather than with some sort of optically-varied pattern, a ball-based mouse will be fine but an optical mouse can/will have problems. The problem is even worse if one is trying to use an optical mouse on glass (whether clear glass or colored). My suggestion would be to get a different mousepad that has a wide variety of patterns and shapes on it so that the laser is able to detect what you are doing more easily.Another option is to get something such as the Logitech Trackman Marble Mouse, which is a wired trackball that has a dotted ball that you move with your fingers and that is detected by an internal laser. I personally prefer trackballs since they take up only the amount of space on the desk that is required for the devices themselves rather than having to keep a larger amount of space clear for moving the mouse around. all you have to do is take the wheel out take vinegar and pour it into the place were the wheel is and what one whole 24 hours and it will work fine!
