We see Andy break through his lack of hope in the portion of the film wherein Andy broadcasts operatic music through the prison, is sent to serve a week in 'The Hole' and returns to his friends.
He discusses with his friends that he felt much more at ease, and he would even term his solitary confinement 'easy' as he was filled with renewed hope. Music had set him free, for it was the one thing they could never take away from him. This event symbolised the emancipation of Andy, and the discovery by Andy of the redemptive power of hope.
