Its actually a tragic love story involving a lot of swordplay and bloodshed with the added bonus of vampire. The ending is poorly done but what I could make out of it was the whole anime is an eternally repeating quest for Kuro to find his lover Kuromitsu. As soon as he finds her they kind of make love as a reward and then the quest restarts from square 1. All he has to help him during his quest are dream like flashbacks from his past memories which get wiped out each time he takes a different body. At the end of episode 12th same thing happens again and he is beheaded and placed in a different body but there is twist this time and the writer re-routes the story to where it all began i.e. 1000 years ago when kuro was about to visit Kuromitsu first time in the forest. Then it is left to viewers imagination what might have happened. But i think what the writer is trying to depict is that in the heat of that battle Kuro had a glimpse of the future and his eternal dread to come if he takes that path. Since it a sci-fi anime another possibility is that he had deja-vu from some alternate reality or parallel universe. (lols maybe this is too much)
