The Law and Order series makes good use of the current science available in criminology but doesn't necessarily stick to authentic scientific method and protocol. For purposes of plot momentum, time constriction, and character modification, they show the scientific work being performed by one or two characters, when in reality it may take, for example, ten or twelve different scientists in different disciplines and even different agencies to produce the results that the series usually attributes to the medical examiner and their office. Like all current crime detective programs, they compress the time necessary to obtain the many scientific results necessary to fit neatly into the plot when in reality, there are many different time frames needed to obtain these results. You will also not see the intervening days, weeks or months that separate receiving the results where no activity is taking place on a case. However, most of the actual science on the programs is from reality.

Law and order SVU is a great show. It is my favorite of all time. The acting is phemomenal, they do such a great job. The story lines are unique and there isn't any other show out there like it.
