Due to the fact that many white people died they used Inuits to collect the precious furs. This was useful until new diseases spread in the 1950 so the Inuits ended up worse of, due to the fact that widespread starvation and death occurred so the money was vitally important for medicines, as Inuits had not encountered these diseases before.
