It can get horrendously hot, I can tell you from having lived there. During July, highs average in the upper 80's Fahrenheit in areas east of the mountains.

During each of the last few summers, several days have topped 100F in the DC/Baltimore corridor. Baltimore recorded its second highest temperature ever (106F) in 2011, and twice recorded 104F in 2012.
