A few years before the gold rush. When the civil war begun in year 1861 to 1865, many white settlers traveled west on horse and oxen wagons as well. They moved there to get new lives and find better, more paying jobs. A lot of chinese immigrants moved to the west of san francisco as well.

The Oregon Exodus came in the 1840s. The California Gold Rush happened starting in 1849 to the late 1850s. Following the Civil War, settlers looking to farm land grants went by train after 1869. The West was said to have come to an end by 1910.
