School years generally have to be 180 days long (not counting weekends or holidays...students must just attend 180 schooldays in one year, but school years actually last longer than 180 days since there are weekends and we have a few breaks during the year as well). Most schools will start sometime between mid August and early September, and end between late May and mid June. So the school year usually ends up lasting just a little over 9 months. And then we get about 2 1/2 months off for summer break in between school years.
