Not too many.

It really depended on the season.

Schools ran during the summer and the winter, when people weren't as busy farming.

Even then, teenage boys sometimes wouldn't come during the winter because they'd be working.

Nothing can be done on a farm on the prairie in the summer.

Classrooms would have no more than 20 or so students, ranging from 4 or 5 to late teens.
