Charles Whitman had no children. He did however have a wife, Kathleen Frances Leissner, and a dog named Schocie. It's ironic though, because after he murdered his wife he left a note asking for the dog to be returned to her parents because "Kathy loved "Schocie" very much." Then he climbed the observation tower on U of T's campus where he preceeded to pick people of with a sniper rifle for 96 minutes. When police were finally able to get close enough, officer Ramiro Martinez shot and killed Whitman with a single shot. When the gunfire finally ended, 18 people lay dead and another 30 were wounded. One was a woman 8 months pregnant. A bullet shattered her unborn baby's head. Upon Whitman's own request written in a note, an autopsy revealed a brain tumor. Although the coroner felt this could not be the cause of the violence, it does leave one to wonder.
