John Hancock is a company that offers life insurance. Life insurance is pretty expensive depending on your age and what kind of health you are in. You would have to ask them based on your situation.
History of the Hancock Insurance CompanyFirst incorporated in 1862 as the John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Company, John Hancock Insurance is one of the oldest and most venerable insurance companies in the United States. The company was named after the Revolutionary War hero who became the first to sign the Declaration of Independence, a man whose name has long been associated with probity and commitment. In the year 2000, the word"mutual" was removed from the company's name and shares of John Hancock stock began trading on floor of New York's Stock Exchange under the symbol JHF.In 2004, John Hancock was acquired by Canada's Manulife Financial Corporation, creating North America's second largest life insurance company. The selling price was $10.4 billion. The John Hancock still retains a strong presence in the U.S. as well where it maintains more than 300 offices nationwide staffed by independent financial brokers and dealers affiliated with the company. In 2006 John Hancock was the Number 1 life insurance company according to the Life Insurance and Market Research Association (LIMRA.) In addition to life insurance products, the company specializes in individual and group long term care insurance, health insurance, living benefits insurance, pension products, annuities and mutual funds in the United States, Canada and Asia.John Hancock's Iconic AdsIn addition to its well-selling life insurance products, the John Hancock Company is also known for innovative advertising. In the 1860s, at a time when marketing was new, the company installed 1one thousand tin signs in railroad depots and grocery emporiums across the Northeast. Those signs are prized collectibles today.During the 1940s and 1950s, the John Hancock Company became famous for a series of ads that ran in the tabloid-sized magazines of that era like Life and the Saturday Evening Post. The ads, many of them painted by the most famous illustrators of the day, barely mentioned life insurance at all but focused instead on unsung heroes like family doctors, unassuming Congress members and Maine lobstermen. These ads may not have pitched insurance products specifically but they did ensure that John Hancock remains one of the best known names in insurance to this very day.

The new insurance company is asking for proof of prior insurance coverage. Some insurance companys have what they call a "proof of prior" discount. This means that you may qualify for a discount if you can prove you had previous insurance with no lapse in coverage. Be sure to ask your insurance agent for a further explanation.
