How many eggs on average are needed to hatch a shiny Pokemon using the Masuda method?

Chances are 1 in 8192 every time you encounter a Pokemon in the wild or breed...unless the Pokemon you're breeding were obtained in games from different countries (such as a Japanese Diamond Ditto and a French HeartGold Charmander). With Pokemon from 2 different countries, you have a 1 in 2048 chance.

Even then it could still be Egg #1 or Egg #1,000,000,000,001 before you meet a Shiny Pokemon from an Egg.

The chances of getting a shiny Charmander are very slim. If you want one, you have to start the game, pick Charmander as your starter, and if it isn't shiny, restart again and repeat the whole process. Not fun.

well, I hatched mine yesterday using a method which calls for two Pokemon from different countries.

the odds of hatching a shiny charmander, randomly, without carefully considering it's parents is roughly 1 in 9,000-ish.

an easier way would be to go onto the GTS (global trading center) and acquire a charmander-charmellion- charizard from Another Country. (Japan is a good place to look) then, either breed that specimen with a female char-something, or a ditto from your own game, and- Go!

the odds are increased to about 1 in 2,000. it seems like bad odds, but if you're patient, stick to it, and maybe even spend a few days working on it, eventually you'll score a shiny.

as for me, I lucked out and got it from the second egg I hatched (which is CRAZY lucky!) maybe you'll have good luck too and get one sooner than expected.

and if your on one of the old gold silver or crystal games, heres what you've got to do:

breed the red Gyrados with a female char-thing. its a 1 in 64 chance there, so it'll be a cinch.

apparently the ratio is 1/683 eggs will be a shiny. but other people say its about 1/1500. that seems a bit ridiculous to me.
