While these are good films, in my opinion Steve Martin has an amazing talent that goes far beyond what he's developed as his usual comedy character.
For comedy, I'd choose "All of Me" with Lily Tomlin, or "Roxanne." Both are inventive, funny, heart-warming, and showcase his variety of talents. For drama, "A Simple Twist of Fate". He plays against type, and it's also a heart-tugger of a movie.
