Some did yet others weren't quick enough but most people were dead, sadly. The law required any ship over 10,000 puonds could only have around 20 boats and the Titanic weighed around 42,000 pounds!
When the last lifeboat was launched, roughly 1,500 people were still on Titanic. This number is uncertain because many people were already in the water and some of the living were pulled into boats.
1,517 died, meaning only 706 were left. There were 2,223 total.
All 20 lifeboats were launched, though Collapsible A and B floated off the ship (A was submerged, B was upside down) just before Titanic sank.
Originally, Titanic's designer,Alexander Carlisle, proposed 64 lifeboats which was reduced to 48, then 32, but only 16 were installed, enough for only 1,178 people if all boats were filled. Thomas Andrews insisted on the extra 4 collapsibles which saved more people, including Bruce Ismay who escaped in collapsible C!
Titanic's fourteen standard lifeboats, at 30 ft. long, could fit about 70 people if need be. The two cutters and four Englehardts were slightly smaller and thus could carry slightly fewer people.
There were 4 "Englehardt" collapsible lifeboats on the Titanic.

Titanic had two collapsibles (and two cutters).
Titanic had two collapsible lifeboats and two cutters. The other sixteen were ordinary lifeboats.
Yes people escaped in boats but not many boats made it back.

Sadly, the Titanic didn't have enough lifeboats, which is part of why so many people died. According to a thorough Wikipedia article, and verified with other historical sources, "Titanic carried a total of 20 lifeboats: 14 standard wooden Harland and Wolff lifeboats with a capacity of 65 people each and four Englehardt "collapsible" lifeboats ... with a capacity of 47 people each."
