Accurate production details for the Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone book is not known, and it would be very hard to combine the information from every country, especially because there are so many different editions.

Having been in publication for 18 years, the book has been reprinted hundreds of times.

Close to ten denied J.K Rowling the opportunity to publish the Harry Potter series. It was dubbed by four publishers as "un-sellable" and "too fictional to sell". I attended a speech by Joanne to gain this insight. It was a classic david and Goliath story with the ultimate winner being Bloomsbury who published the original Harry potter and own most of the rights.

J.K. Rowling was rejected by twelve publishers before she was accepted by Bloomsbury Publishing.

In fact, Bloomsbury initially weren't interested in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone having put it on the low priority shelf until the chairman took the first chapter home for his daughter to read. Eight year old Alice Newton read the chapter and then demanded immediately demanded the next one.

Even then Bloomsbury didn't expect it to be a hit and advised J.K. Rowling to get a day job. They ordered an initial print run of 500 - 300 of which were sent to libraries.

'Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone' was never rejected. It is only called that in the USA, by which point it had already been published in other countries.

The book was titled (and still isl) 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone' when it was rejected. It was rejected twelve times before Bloomsbury Publishing decided to publish it.
