How many school days dose Sweden have?

It's quite variable, depending on for example grade and day of the week. The schedule for the school day in all grades is usually different Monday through Friday, with Friday commonly being a bit shorter and finishing sometime early in the afternoon. In elementary school and junior high school, an average school day lasts between 8.15 a.m. and 3 p.m. In high school days can run a bit longer, but rarely past 4 p.m.

As good as schools in Sweden are they are not that great and have been sliding down the ladder big time for more than 10 years. In elementary school kindergarten is not obligatory and they start school based on the year they are born. So they start school (1st) grade the year they turn 7. And get this, they only go to school from 8:00 to 12:45. Throw in lunch and playtime outside and they are in the classroom far less than 4 hours per day. Same deal for second grade and in 3rd grade they go 2 days per week the full day (about 3:00 pm). The bottom line is that the human brain is so receptive age 5-10 that these kids NEED more classroom time. I live in Sweden and am in the teaching program here and have studied Finland a great deal because their schools are arguably the best in the world. It is proven that forcing kids to learn to read for example too early does have very serious long term effects. Finland starts at the same age and the idea is kind of a let the children discover learning themselves and it sets the foundation for better long term results. But this year the students that are qualified to enter high school (gymnaium) sank to its lowest level and faster in one year than in the past 10. 11.9% of students essentially do not have the passing grades they need to start high school. And the high school dropout rate has skyrocketed as well. Finland has a 97% graduation rate. Pretty friggen stupid that Sweden's neighbor has figured it out and they still continue to deteriorate. But the same can be said about the US. Canada is right behind Finland and the "immersion" schools are pure genious. ALL children should be at least bilingual. Anyone who thinks kids can't do this is almost a criminal for undermining the human potential.
