The area that later became part of Oklahoma was originally home to various Native American tribes, including the Cherokee, Creek, Choctaw, Chickasaw, and Seminole. In the 19th century, the U.S. government forced many of these tribes to relocate to this region through policies like the Indian Removal Act. The land was also part of the land designated for the "Five Civilized Tribes" and was later organized into Oklahoma Territory in 1890. Oklahoma became a state in 1907.
The so called 5 Civilized Tribes were the Cherokee, Chickasaw, Creek, Choctaw and Seminole.
They all were relocated to Oklahoma and the tribes were the Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek, and Seminole.
During the Trail of Tears, and later, many Native American tribes were force to move to what was then called the "Indian Territories." This region was later formed into the State of Oklahoma. Since so many tribes had been relocated there, the state came to have a large Native American population.
