depends WHAT you're hoarding. if it's coinage or paper money that has become obsolete u may be in violation of government regulations. hoarding food or water for disaster preparedness isn't unethical unless u can afford to spend millions and deprive others of what they might need. IMHO
There are people from the Titanic Buried at Mountain View in Vancouver and lots in Halifax.
People who hoard are usually those who have obsessive-compulsive disorder who need to buy too much of something or people who have trouble getting rid of so many items that they think may have value in the future. When things get overwhelming and so much stuff has piled up in your home that you do not know what to do anymore, you can call up hoarder cleanup services. It would be a guess on how many people have committed suicide after appearing on a realty TV show. James Terrill, who appeared on Supernanny, and Mindy McCready, who appeared on Celebrity Rehab, both committed suicide.
Answer: Hoarding...The condition is called Compulsive Hoarding Disorder. It's a form of OCD and it is treatable. Specialized therapy and medications can sometimes help. Compulsive hoarding is a serious medical condition and mental disorder. While it is treatable, people with compulsive hoarding are often suffering, especially when it's severe. See the related links for more information on compulsive pathological hoarding.
Judging by the people appearing on Judge Sheindlin's television show, "Judge Judy," litigants are the dregs of society, offscourings of society, one-percenters, rabble, riffraff, rubbish, scum of the earth, swinish multitude, trash, undesirables, vermin; or simply, litigants are generally despicable people.

In my opinion, the mental health field, unfortunately, goes through "fads." For certain time periods, it seems that almost everyone who has any kind of problem is given a particular diagnosis. Television is particularly susceptible to this phenomenon. I can remember when every series had a character with multiple personality disorder, and the movie of the week was "Sybil." These days hoarding seems to be in the limelight. I haven't seen any statistics which indicate that it is any more prevalent than it was in prior years/decades (although, to be honest, I haven't researched it specifically). Programs about dysfunctional people are inexpensive to produce. All it requires is a director, a camera crew, a narrator and one writer. No actors, no sets. Hoarders are much easier to work with than people with alcohol/drug problems.

There is no definitive answer. You are hoarding when you: 1. Have too many animals. 2. Can't take care of them. If you have many animals but are taking care of them you are not a hoarder. Some people have 6 dogs and take care of them perfectly fine.
