As a temperate latitude country - indeed sub-tropical in the north, the growing seasons are long.

At home here in Wanaka, we seasonally grow cabbages and other brassica and green veges such as silver beet, tomatoes, beans of several types and peas, thornless blackberry, cape Gooseberries (the ones in their individual shell wrappers), peaches, apples, plums, quinces and so on.

Meat is more expensive than we'd like, and in Wanaka, the main grocer has little competition unfortunately.

In summary, there is no shortage of good healthy food.
