ANSWER: It completely depends on the Director, the Deal that has been worked out for him with the project and the type of production. (Blockbuster movie, a B-movie, Independent, etc.)

Making a B-Movie? if it is your first, then most likely $14,000.

Making an Independent movie? Most likely $14,000 to $0.

Making a blockbuster? Possibly $75,000 to start on writing it and another $60,000 if you direct it.

A majority of it depends on the Director... Is he a brand name in himself? Meaning is there an audience that is already built around the movies he/ or she makes?

Additionally, in negotiations a Director may get a percentage of the GROSS or NET gain from the movie. Gross is how much the movie makes... and Net is how much the movie makes - minus all the upfront costs to make it and sell it (advertise).

According to the government's data on careers the average Director in California makes an average $26,000 a year to $28,000.
