Never says the amount of plutonium, but it says 1.21 jigawatts of power are needed. (yes, the real unit is gigawatts, but this is how Doc pronounces it)
88 mph The question was "where", not how fast it needed to go to travel. And, the answer to the question is he got the plutonium from a group of Lybian (not sure how it's spelled) terrorists who wanted him to build them a bomb, but instead used it to power the DeLorean. At the end, however, he used garbage to power it...it's much safer this way.
Worldwide, Back To The Future made a $381,109,762 gross.
1.21 gigawatts.
1.21 Gigawatts
i think it made about $895.5 million dollars but i may be wrong
The amount of plutonium needed to run a reactor depends on the specific reactor design and size. Typically, a few kilograms to several hundred kilograms of plutonium may be required for a nuclear reactor. The concentration and purity of the plutonium play a significant role in determining the exact amount needed.

Approx. 4 000 US $ for weapon-grade plutonium.
Back to the Future Part III grossed $243,700,000 worldwide.
Back to the Future Part II grossed $118,450,002 in the domestic market.
1 plutonium (solid) gallon = 71,337 kg
A quart of plutonium would weigh approximately 132 pounds.
1.21 gigawatts.
The Little Boy atomic bomb used about 64 kilograms (141 pounds) of highly-enriched uranium-235, not plutonium. Plutonium was used in the Fat Man bomb, which used about 6.2 kilograms (13.6 pounds) of plutonium.
In the first movie, the car is electric and uses plutonium to get the necessary 1.21 jigawatts of power to time travel. By the end of the movie, Doc gets a "Mr. Fusion" from the future that creates 1.21 jigawatts (presumably through nuclear fusion). But in the third movie, the car apparently has reverted from electric to gas for normal three dimentional travel. In the telltale video game, it is revealed that the rebuilt car works because of a 12 volt battery, also presumably from the future.
Plutonium for use in nuclear weapons is alloyed with gallium. Delta-phase plutonium is alloyed at 3-3.5 molar percent, or by weight, 0.8 - 1%. Alloying plutonium with gallium increases its thermodynamic stability throughout a range of temperatures, and decreases plutonium's susceptibility to corrosion.
